How-to: Untethered jailbreak for iPod Touch 2G

Ramblings by A.S. No Comments »

As you all may know, the iPod Touch 2G finally got an untethered jailbreak a couple of days ago. A couple of friends were discussing how to go about doing this, so I decided to post how I did it. It’s fairly simple, so here goes nothing:

Requirements (Google for the software names, I won’t post the link):

1. An IPSW of the 2.2.1 firmware

2. LIBUSB, this is essential. If you’re running Vista-64 install it in compatibility mode for XPSP2. And reboot your PC, hold down F8 during startup, disable signatures for drivers to get it working.

3. Unofficialsn0w

1. Extract unofficialsn0w to C:\

2. Place your 2.2.1 firmware in IPSW folder of unofficialsn0w

3. Rename it to OriginalFW.ipsw

4. Run IPSW.BAT and wait about 12 minutes for it to complete.

5. Once it completes it will make a file called jb.ipsw. This is your jailbroken firmware

6. Open jb.ipsw in Winrar. Go down to Firmware\All_flash\all_flash.n72app.production\

7. Delete the LLB file

8. To the same folder in WinRar, add the LLB file found in the IPSW folder

9. Quit WinRar, your firmware is now ready to be used.

10. Put iPod into DFU mode (hold home + power for 10 seconds, let go of power when windows recognizes your ipod in recovery mode. iTunes will popup saying the same).

11. Run Runme.exe, wait for it to complete

12. Once it completes, open iTunes if it already isnt, Shift + Click the restore button and select jb.ipsw.

Bam! Untethered jailbreak = complete!

I am not responsible if you break / brick / screw your iPod Touch ;-)

Updates!

After a much needed break from a lot of things I’m back to the world of blogging, full speed. Here are a few updates as to what’s going on in my life (and Reyox):

- Launch of Reyox’s new site & services got delayed from end of last year to 1st week of March 2009. Many reasons for this, I will write a detailed post about this soon. Needless to say, I apologise on behalf of the company for this delay. But it is indeed for the better as we believe in doing things right the first time rather than doing reactive management.

- I got engaged this February and will be getting married in September 2009.

- My Masters in Business Administration is nearing its completion in a couple of months.

I will have quite a few more updates and details soon.

New website and members area

Ramblings by A.S. No Comments »

We’ve been getting a lot of queries about the upcoming members area. Here’s a quick update for everyone: Our tech team faced a few delays as the main designer working on the new website quit unexpectedly due to personal reasons; I’ll be personally taking up the remaining development of the website to wrap it up as soon as possible. Also note that a new members area is already up and running but we’re working on transferring out client information and records, that is unfortunately a tedious task.

Farewell Bill Gates as he leaves Microsoft

Farewell to Bill Gates as he leaves Microsoft today. He truly made Microsoft what it is and I certainly hope the legacy he has left behind can live upto his name in the future. I wish him best of luck with his retirement and future plans with the Gates Foundation.

Here’s a video from Microsoft as they look back and move ahead.

Passing of my close friend…

Ramblings by A.S. 2 Comments »

It is a very sad day for me and many other people. One of my closest and dearest friends, Ahmed Mehrooz, passed away last night in his sleep. I am still in a state of shock trying to grasp the situation but cannot, he was too young to go. We met almost every day and always had a lot to talk about. He was indeed one of my closest and best friends. He was a wonderful person, always cheerful, never angry, always up for an adventure or anything you could throw at him. A very caring person who always looked out for his friends.

You will be missed my dear friend. I will always remember you and pray for your family’s well being.

Netscape bites the dust

Ramblings by A.S. No Comments »

Here’s a sad (but not unexpected) bit of news. As of February 2008, AOL will discontinue development and support of the Netscape web browser. That’s a sad end to an aging browser. I still remember the days of the 56K modem and how Netscape was ‘the alternate’ choice to I.E.

For the fully story: http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/12/28/a-sad-milestone-aol-to-discontinue-netscape-browser-development/

 Goodbye Netscape, R.I.P

Server failure on Metroplex today! Hardware changed…

Ramblings by A.S. No Comments »

We had an unexpected server failure on the Metroplex (209.59.195.12) server tonight around 12:00 AM Pacific Standard Time, for some reason the server’s processor just died and it went down because of that. Within 5 minutes our staff was on the case and had a new server prepared to replace the hardware with. While we were are it- we upgraded the server’s hardware configuration completely to better the performance.

We do apologise for this outage, servers dying all of a sudden is rather rare.
